Passive Voice: Past Simple
We use the passive voice when the action itself is more important than who did it. Look at these forms before you start.

| was / were + past participle | the main affirmative form | The first Hollywood studio was built in 1911. |
| was / were + not + past participle | negative | The film wasn't shown in colour. |
| Was / Were + subject + past participle? | question | Was the film directed by a woman? |
| ... + by + person | add who did it, only if it matters | The film was directed by D. W. Griffith. |
